Salted anise, black cherry, raspberry, downy peppercorn fills this Willunga, McLaren Vale Grenache. Tannins are a bit mossy and the finish is brisk and snappy. After destemming, this was fermented cool and long before pressing to older French oak barriques where it chilled out until a touch of sulphur prior to bottling. Though the grape, and region, has a proclivity to sunripeness, this bigger wine remains fresh, though not so spritely at 14.3%. Chill down, grill up some salmon burgers and you're set.
From Joe Wagner (Belle Glos, Caymus) comes this overt red with lots of new oak polish. Blueberry, kirsch, raisin, chocolate and spice. Full-bodied and concentrated, it provides a mouthful of pure hedonism. Braised lamb shank would be the optimal accompaniment.
The nose shows some evolution with notes of mushrooms and minerality. Imposing, intense, even powerful in its expression, this is serious Champagne. No sugar in sight, but lots of character and complexity.
From some of the oldest Riesling vines in the valley, up-front notes of citrus and petroleum followed by a juicy, balanced palate of lemon lime with a taut mineral undertone before a lingering, dry zesty close.
Straw yellow. Distinctive nose of citrus, conifer, petrol, sweet apple. Sharp acidity, light body, nice round middle palate and a soft finish of very good length. It drinks nicely now but it will hold 5 years or more in the cellar.
This latest bargain-priced brand from Magnotta offers varietals at wallet-friendly prices. This wine is ruby-coloured with a minty, cherry and pencil lead nose. It’s light on the palate with a fruity redcurrant flavour.
Great value here. Golden straw in colour with a bouquet of honey and peach with mineral notes. Medium-bodied and medium sweet, well-balanced honey and grapefruit flavours with abundant length.
