Located in Vrigny, this small Champagne house of 8.7 hectares, which has the organic and biodynamic certifications, is producing elegant bubbles from premier cru vineyards. Tradition is a blend of 65% Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay with 70% from the 2014 vintage blended with reserve wine. Tangy acidity balanced by complex notes of brioche and red currants with a delicate and fine mousse that caresses the taste buds. Well-integrated dosage and a lingering finish.
Clear very deep garnet. Aroma of maraschino cherry, milk chocolate and a bit of coconut (quite like a Cherry Blossom chocolate bar — do they still make those?). High acidity and still-prominent tannins, but this is mature, full-bodied and robust, tasting of raisins and cherries. Good value. Drink now.
Delicate, lightly herbal, flinty and linear with lively acidity and a focussed finish. Understated, but very good quality. Grown in a windy, cool site with reddish slate soils at an elevation of nearly 500 metres. Not what people might typically associate with Sauvignon Blanc if they are used to drinking New Zealand and Californian varieties, but definitely an expression worth exploring.
Clear medium-deep garnet. Herbal nose from the Cabernet Franc, but one can also scent plums and light molasses. Tasty but simple flavours of raspberry and cherry. Drink now.
This stalwart of most Canadian wine stores is a creamy Chardonnay with a personality of citrus, green apple, peach, white flowers, honey, vanilla and spice. Excellent length with just the right amount of acidity.
Cherry cola, plum, herbs, vanilla, cocoa, liquorice and herbs work together on a medium-plus body. There is a lingering personality and firm tannins. Perfect for the summer barbecue season!
Dark ruby. Pleasant nose, fruity with a bit of sweet oak. No sweetness in the mouth though; balanced acidity, the slightly dry tannins are well wrapped in fruity extract. A very decent glass of unsophisticated red from down under.
