Very dark colour. Classy, complex nose of red fruits and flowers, luxurious oak. Thick and very smooth texture, thanks to well-controlled acidity. Tannins are very finely grained with a silky feel. Finish is very expressive, aromatic and intense. Already great, it holds a lot of potential over many years.
Here is an Aussie rendering of a Moscato d’Asti. Slightly frothy, the perfume of peaches, flowers and marmalade pulls the taster into its aura. It is sweet, with added nuances of honey and spice on the palate. Light bodied and refreshing, it is tailor made as a late evening summer sipper, or a lovely addition to homemade fruit salad. Serve it well chilled.
A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre, this is one hot wine for the price. It’s a dark ruby colour with rich cassis, currants, raspberry, pencil shavings, eucalypt, spice and smoky aromas on the nose. The fruits are rich and savoury in the mouth with lovely integrated spices, cedar and a subtle minty note on the finish. Serve with grilled meats.
Deep plum red. Vigorous nose of raspberry and ripe cherries. Medium-bodied. The flavours of cherries and herbs are dilute, tannins practically gone. Drink immediately.
A warming, rich porter brewed by Blindman Brewing in Lacombe, a small city nestled between the Rockies and the barley fields. Pouring a deep brown with a tan, dense collar of foam. With aromas of brownie batter and roasted blonde coffee beans, the ale is rich and complex, perfect for the colder fall weather.
Nice fruity nose, inviting, even charming with complexity. Great acidity, lots of freshness and fruity presence; overall very nice. Finish is clean with yet more freshness. Made using the same method as Champagne, it is as good as many.
The combination of aromatic purity, power and balance are truly impressive. Huge lime, bergamot, white peach and crystalline minerality soar across the senses. The palate achieves the status of a lovely Kabinett with a long aftertaste. Still an infant; it will be interesting revisit this wine as it evolves over the next decade, at least.
