Tasted in February, when no longer “Nouveau.” Deeply coloured pinkish-purple wine comes in a colourful flower-decorated bottle. Big nose of sweet hard strawberry candies, banana and sweet tea. On the palate tastes like fruity (raspberry, strawberry) tea, invites quaffing. Serve cool, drink soon.
Dark brown, a thick coat of foam. Heavy nose of dark caramel and plum. It tastes of almost sweet candied fruit; the low acidity and dense body feel good and filling in the mid-palate. Nourishing.
Pale straw in colour showing a spicy pear and apple bouquet with oak notes. Full-bodied, richly extracted apple and pineapple flavours carried on lively acidity and backed by vanilla oak. A rich and powerful wine.
Aromatic spicy plum, herbal and cherry scents yield to elegant red and dark fruit with a suggestion of raspberry in the mouth. Finishes with lightly firm tannic grip and acidity that is brisk but not overbearing.
The “Grand Cru” of the Clos Jordanne portfolio is a full-bodied and layered offering with waves of peach, pear, apple, citrus, honey, hazelnut, toast and spice. The palate is dense, yet refined, with an underlying current of minerality as well as fresh acidity. Ready to drink. A triple-cream brie or roast chicken stuffed with mushrooms would be sublime with this wine.
Oaky, but not over the top, as the aromas of vanilla, hazelnut and spice mesh with green apple, Bosc pear and white peach. Medium-plus body; there is excellent length with a creamy/acidic interplay making for a delicious pairing with lobster and drawn butter.
A Barolo which leans towards the old-school style. Tar, dried earth, dried cherry, dried rose, spice, cocoa are all present. On the palate, the fruit still shows sweetness along with enough tannins that will ensure 20 years of longevity.
