When I win the lottery, this is the wine I will celebrate with — and drink daily afterwards. Yellow straw in colour, it offers a lovely vanilla, citrus and apple nose enhanced with apple-blossom perfume. It fairly dances on the palate with its light and elegant lemony-green apple flavour — a flavour that lingers unconscionably long.
Aromas and flavours of cherry and plum with hints of dried herbs and tobacco and quite youthful, nice acidity on the finish. Needs a few more months in the bottle to come together. 85% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo and 5% Merlot.
Clear deep garnet. Forward and interesting nose recalls warm raisin bran muffins or perhaps date squares, also hints of candied cherries and maple syrup. On the palate, full-bodied with ripe blackberry fruit over vanilla and caramel base notes. An in-your-face Californian with high alcohol and acidity. Needed its age, tannins are still firm but mature and drinking well now.
From a warm site high above the east side of Skaha Lake, definite pepper and ripe cassis notes on the nose before a well-structured, plush and plummy palate with a core of black fruit and vanilla. Approachable tannins from well-managed French oak, before varietally true pepper, cinnamon and other spices through the persistent close.
This is Pondview’s first effort with Riesling icewine. The nose shows lovely peach, honey, tropical fruits and candied citrus notes. It’s lush on the palate with flavours of mango, apricot, guava, poached pear and wild honey with subtle notes of almond and caramel on the finish. Nicely balanced by firm acidity.
Very pale straw in colour. Aromatic honeysuckle and peach bouquet suggest sweetness, but the wine is delightfully dry and beautifully balanced. Light and fragrant on the palate with fresh tangerine acidity that sustains the peach-lychee flavour. Clean and true: the perfect summer wine.
The name here is very apropos as this wine is well suited for lighter grilled fare as well as tomato-based dishes. Smooth and easy-drinking, this Barbera serves up dark cherry, plum, anise and cocoa. At this price, 1 bottle can easily become 2 ... or 3 ... especially on the patio this summer.
