Layered and leathery, Tancredi is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d'Avola, Tannat and other grapes from Sicily. 14 months in oak barrique was followed by 24 months in bottle, fortifying the tannins as well as the structure. Worn leather coats the base, while thorny cassis, black cherry, tobacco, scrubby Mediterranean herbs and anise carry through the warm, salty and drying finish. Tannins are firm and slightly balsamic-sticky, though pouring alongside roasted lamb and polenta would easily (and deliciously) solve.
