Spring is here (we hope). 4 Tips for Dressing Up in Hot Weather

By / Life / March 24th, 2016 / 7

The snow on the ground is melting and green buds are starting to appear on the trees. That can only mean one thing: warm spring weather is just around the corner, and it’s time to put away your sweaters and replace them with sundresses. There are so many benefits to the balmy temperatures in spring and summer, however, one drag that can come along with the bountiful sunshine is the added challenge of looking good and feeling comfortable, despite heat and humidity. If you’re planning to go to an event this spring and want to look and feel your best, check out the list below. It contains four helpful tips for looking fresh and fashionable, even when the weather feels hot and humid.

1. Wear Your Hair Up

Wearing your hair down, especially if it is long, can make you feel extra hot when the sun’s out. Get some cool air on your neck by wearing a formal ponytail, which will not only keep you feeling good, but will look good at a nice event, too. A celebrity favorite for red carpet events is the tousled ponytail. Simply wrap several large sections of your hair around a hot curling iron to make them wavy. Then, pull all of your hair into a ponytail using an elastic. Next, slide the elastic down a little bit to loosen the ponytail, then re-tighten by splitting your ponytail into two parts and pulling them apart to make the elastic taut. To finish the look, wrap one strand of hair around the elastic to cover it, then use bobby pins to secure it in place.

2. Wear Loose, Flowing Dresses and Skirts

One of the most important rules for hot weather is that the tighter something is, the hotter it will make you. So, opt for loose, flowing skirts, dresses or dress pants when choosing your outfit. If you want a comfy look that is also trendy, opt for a maxi dress.

3. Opt for Waterproof Makeup

You might sweat if you spend time outside in the spring, but that doesn’t mean you have to skip the makeup. Opt for waterproof options for liquid products like mascara, eyeliner or lip gloss. That will help you avoid any unsightly smears or running colors while you’re attending a hot weather event.

4. Choose Flat, Sturdy Shoes

Heels might look great, but when you’re dressing up in the heat, they’re extra uncomfortable — and hard to keep on your feet due to slippery sweat. When you’re dressing up in the heat, pick a pair of flat, sturdy shoes that match your outfit, like strappy sandals or espadrilles. This will help keep your feet secure and comfortable, and will ensure you don’t sink down into any grassy or muddy terrain.
