Although more commonly known as Grenache, this grape expresses its origins in Spain’s Aragon region. Look for lush, fragrant floral and ripe strawberry bursting on both nose and palate. Intense, yet lighter-bodied, with a clean, goes-down-easy finish. Imminently drinkable on its own. Gob-smacking value.
The fruity nose has good intensity and a mineral touch. On the palate, everything is in order, clean taste and perfectly dry, the finish has a good length. What more can you ask for at this price?
The Bierzo appellation is gaining attention for the potential of the native red Mencia and white Godello varieties. This one is almost black in the glass, with dark ripe but broodingly intense fruit on the nose, backed up by hints of fig, clove and cinnamon. Powerfully concentrated ripe blackberry, dark plum, firm tannic grip and lots of weight in the mouth, finishing with a splash of dark chocolate, offsetting tannic dryness and a touch of alcoholic heat.
Full ruby. Ripe red fruits, smoke and a hint of barnyard on the nose. Nice medium body, good fruity taste, balanced and overall quite tight on the palate. Good buy.
Alvaro Palacios is one of the most exciting young winemakers in Spain. This is a rich Tempranillo wine with a nose of blackberries, blackcurrants and pencil lead with a floral note.
