Light ruby. Delicate nose of small red fruits, earthy notes opening to more precise strawberry and a touch of oak. Silky, only light to medium bodied, but good fruit precision. Ready to drink. The price is reasonable but you might expect more from the great 2009 vintage.
Medium straw in colour with that characteristic lychee and rose petal nose; off-dry, exotic flavours of honey and Turkish Delight; full on the palate and very assertive.
That’s no typo, this is really a 1974 and it’s a steal! Rich amber colour, dried fruits, almonds and a slight nutty overtone. Intense waves of dry and sweet flavours hit the tongue as you swirl it in the mouth. Tight, caressing tannins and a bit tartaric. Great length, too. Almost certainly sold out by the time you read this, but watch for more great deals from the same appellation.
Complex floral nose seduces, while rich, concentrated palate satisfies. Feminine texture and silky tannins give a sense of weightlessness despite its voluptuous flavours. Aromas and flavours of cherry, black currant and spice notes, while minerality lingers. Suited superbly for roast duck.
The fine nose of pure red fruits (mostly blackcurrant) has well dosed but noticeable oak. Quite compact on the palate, it shows elegance in its sweet, chunky fruit and silky tannins. Delicious!
Very pale colour. Light and delicate nose of citrus with hints of asparagus and chalk. The chiselled, sharp flavours are fruity, gaining in fattiness through the middle palate. Body remains light throughout and the finish is refreshing. Ready to drink.
A fascinating red wine made with 100% Mondeuse, a rustic version of Syrah that follows the natural winemaking principals of “nothing added, nothing taken away.” In other words, wild fermentation, no sulphur added, organically farmed vineyards. It shows a crazy-wild nose of fruitcake, spice, cinnamon, cloves, violets, sun-baked raspberry and blackcurrants. In the mouth it’s bone dry, tight and highly acidic with flavours of crushed flowers, loam, mineral, aggressive tannins, peppery spice, raspberry, cranberry and boysenberry. Not for everyone, but a thrill if you’re looking for something different.
