This strikingly unusual wine is quite pale green in colour, showing lively aromatic grassy herbal green fruit, more typical of Sauvignon than Chardonnay. It opens on the palate with limpid, elegant fresh green fruit supported by bright acidity, stony mineral and a delicate splash of buttery vanilla on the finish.
Made from Pinot Noir grapes, this is appropriately pale, yellowish copper in hue. Medium-intensity nose of strawberry, raspberry and rhubarb. Light-bodied, delicate and crisp, tasting of cranberries, Mandarin orange, and lime. Would lend a lot of class to a ham sandwich enjoyed on the deck. Drink now.
Dense purple-ruby in colour with a cedary, blackcurrant nose and a tarry note; medium to full-bodied, rich plum and blackcurrant flavours, firmly structured, ending on ripe tannins.
Almost black in colour, reflecting the intense concentration of this powerful wine. The complex nose reveals ripe dark berry fruit, fresh fig and fine peppery spice. Harmoniously integrated, lush dark berry fruit, supple velvety tannins, spice, a lick of chocolate, with subtle oak rounding out the finish. Antu is an experimental range of wines for Montgras — with this one, they are definitely on the right track.
Opaque purple in colour with a savoury herbal nose of blackberries; full-bodied, dry, dark chocolate and black fruit flavours ending on ripe tannins.
Ruby purple. Black berries (cassis, blackberry), the well-dosed oak has slightly burnt notes, a sign of heavy toasting. Half to full-bodied, good balance and fine tannins, just tight enough but turning a bit rough in the finish, yet it remains fruity overall.
This is one of those wines that surprises you. You don’t expect the concentration of flavour and elegance of structure in a wine this price. Dense purple in colour, this Cabernet has an intense nose of cedar, cigar box and blackcurrant topped with a floral grace note. Medium-bodied, dry, richly extracted, ripe blackberry and blackcurrant flavours fill the palate ending on ripe, mellow tannins.
