By / Mavericks / September 5th, 2013 / 3

Marisa D’Vari, luxury travel and fine wine writer, calls New York home. That’s just where her accomplishments begin. Marisa has been a judge the International Wine Challenge and the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London, England. She was also selected to sit on the jury of Vinitaly’s 20th International Wine Competition. You can read her articles in London’s FT, Decanter, Robb Report and so many others. Visit her website, A Wine Story, to learn more about her. Marisa’s approach to wine education is varied and fun. Her background as an executive at a number of Hollywood studios gave her an opportunity to learn engaging storytelling techniques. It’s this winning method that allows her to pass on her extensive knowledge of wine to other regardless of whether she’s teaching beginners or life-long aficionados.

What’s the best thing about writing about wine?

Among other things, the opportunity to rediscover the person I was before I went to numerous wine schools, attained many wine-related diplomas, and entered the Master of Wine program!

What’s your favourite place to visit?

France is fabulous! I love the cellars in Burgundy. In one I saw a 12th century press that had operated until just recently.

What’s your favourite colour?

Mauve, fuchsia …

What’s the best book to read on a plane?

Something juicy and gossipy … yet classic and well written. For that, I like Edith Wharton.

What’s your favourite food?

Carrots. Curious why that is!
