5 Minute Mav: Jason Fraser
Jason Fraser is the talented winemaker at Thornhaven Estates Winery in Summerland, BC. Founded by his parents, Jan and Jack, Jason has been producing high quality, award-winning wines from the get-go. Although gewürztraminer has been the winery’s signature grape from the beginning, Jason has spent the last eight years increasing production and gaining recognition for wines made from grapes sourced from 18 estate acres and 16 purchased acres using grapes, such as Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay and many others.
It really depends on what time of year you catch me. For working in the vineyard, I really like the Pinot Noir, it grows nice and straight and doesn’t get too bushy so it makes life easier, while doing all the hand work. Now for absolute beauty the Pinot Gris grape is like clusters of brown velvet, But nothing tastes like harvest like the juice from the gewürztraminer grape.
What’s your worst quality?
My worst quality would have to be that I’m pretty laid back and don’t get excited or nervous about things. I could wake up on Mars with my head sewn to my pillow, and it wouldn’t faze me one bit.
Most memorable travel experience?
Now the most memorable traveling experience was getting sick in Mexico and calling a doctor to the resort. The fun part was when my girlfriend got back from supper only to find me with my pants down while a female doctor was giving needles to my bottom. “Its not what it looks like”
Regrettably I am a movie buff, so books don’t excite me like a good flick does. Now, hands down Stanley Kubric has most of my top 10 movies.
What’s your definition of happiness?
Happiness to me, other than the obvious (not working! retiring in Malta in a farm house that overlooks the sea.) Happiness now is enjoying good company with friends on a nice Okanagan summer’s evening while sipping on locally made stout.
