Tour Burgundy and Côtes du Rhône with Tony Aspler

By / Magazine / January 13th, 2009 / 1

Taste Burgundy and the Côtes-du-Rhône regions with Tony Aspler this spring. The eleven day tour will begin by exploring Syrah-based wines in the northern Rhône River Valley followed by a lunch of regional specialties in the town of Tain l’Hermitage. A visit to the hillside vineyards of Côte Rôtie (the “Roasted Slope”) for a private tasting at one of the many estates in the area.

The remainder of the trip will be spent exploring the sites and sounds of France from Chablis, via Beaune, and Hermitage. The tour will feature wine tastings at top estates, including Romanée-Conti, Jaboulet, P. Ferraud & Fils, William Fevre and others.

Of particular interest is the excursion into the Côte de Nuits area of the Côte d’Or. Wine villages, such as Nuits-Saint-Georges and Aloxe-Corton, producers of mostly red “grand cru” wines dot the countryside. The tour will also visit Clos de Vougeot, a Medieval winery before ending the day at a local restaurant.

In between tastings, enjoy an excursion into the hilly Beaujolais. Then stroll through villages, such as Brouilly, Fleurie and St. Amour to shop for specialty items.
