An all-star lineup of Canadian chefs, including Lynn Crawford, Chuck Hughes, Mark McEwan, Vikram Vij and Corbin Tomaszeski are recruiting foodies to compete on their team for the first-ever KitchenAid Cook for the Cure Culinary Showdown. Hosted by actor Dean McDermott, this extraordinary challenge gives culinary enthusiasts the opportunity to fundraise for a chance to cook alongside celebrity chefs in the type of team cooking challenge normally reserved for TV. Food lovers can register and begin fundraising at cookforthecure.ca.

Taking place at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel on December 7, 2013, the KitchenAid Cook for the Cure Culinary Showdown is an exclusive experience in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) to help realize the organization’s vision of creating a future without breast cancer. CBCF is the largest non-governmental funder of breast cancer research in Canada.

“With the KitchenAid Cook for the Cure event, we’re challenging foodies across Canada to put their best plate forward by doing what they love for the cure,” said Aleksandra Hoszowski, Senior Brand Manager, KitchenAid Canada. “This event is a great opportunity for passionate home chefs to get up close and personal with their favourite culinary idols while supporting breast cancer research and the valuable programs funded by CBCF.”

“I’d like to thank all of the fundraisers, sponsors and fabulous chefs who are supporting our vision of a future without breast cancer,” said Sandra Palmaro, CEO of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Ontario Region. “Donations from this event allow CBCF to continue to fund relevant, innovative research and support and advocate for the breast cancer community.”

The KitchenAid Cook for the Cure Culinary Showdown provides foodies an opportunity to fundraise for a chance to meet, learn from, and compete with Canada’s top chefs, including:

The top 50 fundraisers will put their culinary talents to the test live on stage with a celebrity chef. Five teams of 10 will compete under pressure to create three unique dishes. Participants will be judged by an expert panel on taste and presentation.

Participants who raise at least $2,500 earn a spot to participate in the Culinary Showdown’s Celebrity Chefs School. During the chefs school portion of the event, participants will be coached on everything from ingredient picking to proper plating by Canada’s top cooking masters. Participants who raise a minimum of $1,000 are invited to take in the thrilling culinary battle in person as a member of the Culinary Showdown audience on December 7.

In 2013, KitchenAid Canada will support the breast cancer cause by donating $100,000 or more to CBCF through its Cook for the Cure sponsorship and Pink Product Collection sales. Since 2002 over $2.3 million has been raised through the KitchenAid’s Cook for the Cure programs including $75 donations to the CBCF for every KitchenAid Raspberry Ice Stand Mixer sold.

Food lovers, cooking connoisseurs and novices alike are invited to join KitchenAid and the CBCF in the fight against breast cancer by participating in this one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn from the best chefs in the country.
