THE ICONIC LAND OF BARBERA D’ASTI AND MONFERRATO WINES

A WINE-GROWING EXCELLENCE

The territory of Monferrato, located in the heart of Piedmont, represents a geological and morphological reality of extraordinary complexity and charm, fundamental for understanding the richness and variety of the wines produced. The alternation of valleys and hills contributes to a diversification of microclimates within the same area, allowing for the cultivation of different grape varieties and the production of wines with unique and distinctive characteristics. The exposure of the hills, which varies from south to southwest, the variation in altitude, with elevations ranging from 150 to 600 meters above sea level, combined with the wisdom and passion of Monferrato’s winemakers, contributes to creating wines of exceptional quality, authentic expressions of a territory.

In this enchanting landscape, wine is not just a beverage but the story of a land, its traditions, and its people. Barbera d’Asti DOCG, with its robust personality and notes of cherry and plum, is a wine that speaks for the land from which it comes. Its versatility makes it the ideal companion for a rich and varied table. Imagine sitting in a Piedmontese trattoria, in front of a steaming plate of tajarin with sausage sauce, the thin and enveloping pasta intertwining with the wine in an embrace that encloses all the essence of the territory. And then there are the meat grills, where Barbera d’Asti reveals all its fullness, balancing its acidity with the succulence of the meats. Its “Superiore” version, which requires a minimum aging of 14 months, of which at least six in wood, represents the most complex and structured expression of this wine. With a greater concentration, the Barbera d’Asti DOCG Superiore wine stands out for its aromatic depth and its elegance, becoming the spokesperson for an even deeper bond with the land of origin. Nizza DOCG, a gem among the Consortium’s wines, stands out for its elegance and structure. Barbera grapes, carefully selected, give life to a wine that is a tribute to tradition and excellence. Notes of dark cherry and plum, together with balsamic nuances and hints of cinnamon and cocoa resulting from aging in wood, make it the perfect companion for intense and flavorful dishes. Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG is a wine that captivates with its uniqueness, the result of a rare and precious vine. The floral and spicy aromatic profile, combined with a pleasant aromatic persistence, makes it unmistakable.

Consorzio Barbera d’Asti and Wines of Monferrato is the pulsating heart of such a prosperous wine land, proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site, representing an essential reference point for a wine production chain that expresses, through its products, the history and value of an unparalleled territory.

“The unparalleled beauty of our territories is evident here. And UNESCO’s recognition is undoubtedly an important added value that has allowed us, in recent years, to further spread the knowledge of our wines worldwide. However, it is essential to remember that such uniqueness is possible only through constant cooperation between man and nature. It is the result of the work of hundreds of years carried out by our men and women who have been able to preserve, but also interpret according to the times, the winemaking tradition, respecting history and landscape” – Vitaliano Maccario, President of the Consortium Barbera d’Asti and Wines of Monferrato.

The Consortium currently protects and promotes 13 prestigious denominations (4 DOCGs and 9 DOCs). Among these are Albugnano DOC, Barbera d’Asti DOCG, Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato DOC, Dolcetto d’Asti DOC, Freisa d’Asti DOC, Grignolino d’Asti DOC, Loazzolo DOC, Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco DOC, Monferrato DOC, Nizza DOCG, Piemonte DOC, Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG, and Terre Alfieri DOCG.
