Wake up and Smell the Bacon

By / Food / April 1st, 2014 / 3

Yes, it is April 1st but we promise, this is not an April Fool’s prank!

Oscar Myer has created an alarm clock App and accompanying device that will wake you up to the sound and smell of sizzling bacon.

Essentially, the entire concept is a brilliant marketing campaign. The app is currently FREE but the scent device can only be won through an Oscar Myer promotion. The website, wakeupandsmellthebacon.com, features a masterful video that you have to see to truly appreciate. If you love bacon (and even if you don’t), you will laugh out loud! And, want bacon.

The App

Available only to idevice users, the App requires IOS 7.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It is optimized for the iPhone 5. The App features a virtual skillet that can be rotated to set your wake-up time, with the handle acting as the clock hand. Your wake up sound will be that of sizzling bacon and a few “baconisms” that will give you an early morning giggle or two.

The Device

The dongle, a small plastic device that plugs into the earphone jack, works with the app to release a bacon-scented spray at your set wake-up time. Oscar Meyer has no plans on retailing the device – it is currently available through its online promotion only. There are 4700 devices to giveaway and you must “apply” for a chance to win yours. Watch the video, answer a few bacon-related questions and you are entered to win.

Game is open only to residents of the fifty (50) Unites States and D.C., eighteen (18) years of age and older.
