Olive Oil Assistance
In order to lend a helping hand to those who may be experiencing COVID-related food insecurity, The Olivar Corp – purveyor of top-quality extra version olive oils – is donating all profits from the sale of four specific oils to Food Banks Canada (FBC).
“Normally in the late spring or early summer I would donate oils to the Second Harvest Kitchen Program; a program that also trains individuals struggling to find employment,” explains Dolores Smith, olive oil expert and owner of The Olivar Corp. “Due to the current situation, the Program is currently not operating, and I’ve been informed that food distribution programs can use money more than product at this time.”
With that in mind, Smith created her own program to provide much-needed funds to assist the one in seven households experiencing food insecurity due to the pandemic. Smith notes that for every dollar donated to FBC, two meals can be distributed to those in need.
The four EVOOs on offer – all specially priced – include Centenarium, Oro San Carlos, Reserva Familiar and Entre Caminos Organic. These are all exceptional Spanish that are coveted by dedicated foodies. More information, including flavour profiles, can be found on the website given below.
Smith notes that one of the four oils on offer has a “best before” date of May of this year (with its price drastically reduced in recognition of this). The others have dates of late Fall and December 2021. Like most other consumables, high-quality EVOOs from premium quality olives and state-of-the-art extraction don’t immediately “go off” at 12:01 of the first day of the best before month. However, Smith encourages customers to open them now and enjoy these oils regularly rather than saving them and/or using them infrequently.
The price is right; the benefits to those in need of food is obvious, and since you’re probably doing more cooking and baking than maybe ever before, it’s time to embrace your inner gourmet with gourmet-quality EVOO.
