New Year’s Resolution Solutions

By / Food / January 22nd, 2009 / 3

By now everyone is back to school and work, back to dinners and back to grocery shopping for the same old stuff. With New Year’s resolutions making us feel guilty every time we drive past the gym, it’s time to make a change – a change that tastes good. Here are some solutions to those pesky resolutions.

New Year’s Resolution No. 1: I want to prepare healthier meals for me and my family, and lose weight.

Solution: With 14 essential nutrients, Canadian beef is a great choice for healthy living and is part of Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide which recommends 2-3 servings (75 g each) of Meat and Alternatives each day for adults. Bumping up the protein in your meals may keep you satisfied longer which can help you resist those urges to reach for unhealthy snacks between meals. And, since protein may help curb your hunger, it may help control your calorie intake.

New Year’s Resolution No. 2: I want to learn how to cook some of our favourite take-out foods and save money by making them at home.

Solution: Do you enjoy take-out or delivery? Planning a meal schedule for even a few days of the week can guarantee success. A good recipe will give you clear step-by-step instructions so that you’ll never need to order take-out again. Sometimes grocery stores will offer rock bottom prices on beef cuts that might be unfamiliar to you. By making some clever substitutions, you can learn how to transform inexpensive cuts of beef into marvelous meals.
