Skybar Wine Chill Drops

By / Food / January 7th, 2014 / 1

If you don’t have a wine fridge to keep your stored wines at an ideal serving temperature –many of us in small spaces simply don’t have the room – you may find yourself drinking your wine a little warmer than you would like. This is especially true if the opening of said wine was not a planned event and chilling it in the fridge is not an option.

Skybar, a wine product and accessories company, have fashioned sleek single glass “drops” that are designed to be stored in the freezer and used to cool both red and white wines, 20 times faster than the refrigerator.

Skybar claims the stainless steel drops can chill red wine in 90 seconds and white wine in 8 minutes, to a perfect serving temperature. Pour yourself (and a guest) a glass of wine stored at room temperature and in minutes, the drop can be removed, rested on its holder or rinsed and re-stored in the freezer. In the meantime, we recommend chilling your now opened bottle in an ice bucket.

Our research indicates that users agree that the drops chill your wine relatively quickly, are stylish and sleek and are great conversation starters. The two notable criticisms are the drops plastic stems – reviewers believed it tended to take some of the sophistication out of the overall design – and the relatively high cost. The drops come in a set of two, so if you regularly host a few guests at a time (and often forget to properly chill your wine) purchasing and storing more than two drops may be an unrealistic option.

Skybar Wine Chill Drops retail for approximately $50.00 US. At the time of publishing this post, Amazon was listing the Wine Drops at $17.99 US.
