Be Part of the Growth

Whether you have a big garden, a small yard, or a simple window ledge, show off your garden!

As part of a vast public consultation operation on urban agriculture, the Office de consultation publique de Montréal launches today a Web site that will allow all citizens and organizations to share their experiences. As the purpose of the public consultation is to identify Montréal urban agriculture practices, problems encountered, and future outlooks, the site aims to provide a space for citizen collaboration. Upon completion, we hope to see emerge a portrait of agricultural practices in Montréal, both in terms of habits and techniques, and their distribution throughout the various neighbourhoods.

How to participate

People are invited to share their experiences relating to the following categories: Residential Gardens; Community Gardens; Institutional Gardens; Commercial Agriculture; Composting; Greening/Development; Social/Educational Projects; Animal Husbandry; and Ideas for the Future.

Visitors may then consult the pages either by practice category or via an interactive card. The pages visited may also be shared on Facebook, Twitter, or by e-mail. The Web site for the initiative is www.montrealacultiver.com, and we also invite you to watch our video inviting you to share your experiences at youtube.com/ocpmontreal. “We at the Office are very happy to be able to respond to this consultation request made by almost 30,000 Montréal citizens through the Right of Initiative,” says Office President Louise Roy.

Several meetings and events are planned as part of the consultation. Notably, there will be an expo-fair on urban agriculture on May 12, a colloquy on May 17, and consultation sessions in various areas of Montréal throughout the month of June. Moreover, the activities organized by the Office and its partners are posted on the Montréal urban agriculture calendar, created by Le Mur Mitoyen. This public calendar lists the numerous activities to be held in Montréal over the coming months on that issue. The calendar is available as of today on murmitoyen.com/agricultureurbaine.
