Montreal Wins World Title

Congratulations to the citizens of Montreal!

A jury made up of international tourism professionals has chosen Montreal as the Best Global Destination. La belle ville beat out Tokyo (Japan), Marrakesh (Morocco), Corsica (France), London (England), and Shanghai (China). Not bad for one of the oldest cities in Canada. The award is meant to recognize trendy and exciting cities around the world.

Do you agree with the jury’s findings? Comparing a younger city to some of the ancient art capitals of the world, then choosing a winner would be really tough. I always have a great time when I visit. From the St. Lawrence to rue Ste Catherine to Mont Royal, there are so many great eateries, wine bars and galleries to explore within easy walking distance of wherever your starting point may be. As an added bonus is the architecture. Walk along any street and you’re treated to a living display of a century (and more) of architectural styles.

By way of celebration, go out and pick up a bottle or two of Quebec-made beer or wine and a plate of poutine.
