The Life of Luxury

What do you look for in a hotel when you travel? Some people just look at it as a place to sleep after a tiring day of sight-seeing. Not me. Even if I’m in a hotel for just one night, I love luxury. From the hotel architecture to the room’s design to the professionalism of the staff to all the special little extras the staff does for you, like a voucher for a free glass of wine just for being a regular customer. Being treated to all the special little things make me feel rested and happy.

A recent survey looked at what makes Canadians want to stay in a hotel – an enormous flat screen TV, a shower that fits five, or a personal butler? Apparently, it’s none of the above. It turns out what Canadians actually want is more simple – the comfort of their own home.

Staying Connected – 28 per cent of Canadians chose free Wi-Fi as their number one must-have.

24 per cent of Canadians chose high-end coffee makers as their number one modern amenity.

More than 23 per cent of Canadians would prefer to be able to have iPads for guest services, local information and personal use.

34 per cent of Canadians chose complimentary bottled water as the most appreciated simple amenity.

Also high on the list: amenities like robes, cordless phones and bottle openers.

28 per cent of Canadians chose bath butlers (a concierge that draws a bath with your personal selection of scents, oils, etc.) and bath menus as their least favourite amenity.

Among the most overhyped amenities: designer toiletries, pillow menus and turndown service,

Least Used Amenity: 34 per cent of Canadians do not use a bathroom phone

Second Least Used Amenity: The mini bar comes at 28 per cent.
