A Festive Entrance

By / Food / December 13th, 2013 / 1

When decorating for the holiday season, my goal is for people to walk in and think “wow”. The trick is to focus on one main colour, theme or focal point. Here are a few suggestions.

Go Green

Wreaths and garlands are great for entryways that have a banister or stairwell. Hang the wreath on every fourth post and wrap the garland around the railing. As an alternative, have tall, thin evergreens on either side of the door. A string of cranberries wrapped around the garland or trees, pinecones hanging from the banister and little gold stars or ornaments as accents will make the entryway pop…. don’t forget the mistletoe.

Gold & Silver

Put gold and silver ornaments in a clear vase or a ceramic bowl on the cabinet in the entry way. Wrap gold lights around the staircase railing. Place a faux gold wire Christmas tree on either side of your front door. Add a punch of colour with two blue ornaments in your collection or hang red ornaments on your wire trees.

Statues & Figurines

Set it up your figurines in a prominent place as the focal point – on a small table or dresser for example. A simple white cloth underneath is all that you really need. Keep all other decorations to a minimum, placed so that they lead the eye to your display.

Wrap it Up

Find two types of wrapping paper you like, preferably with the same colour scheme. Wrap several smaller boxes of varying sizes in both paper. Place the boxes on the stairwell, or stack them on either side of the door. Cut out snowflakes in the wrapping paper, frame them and hang them on the walls as holiday themed art.
