Looking for a way to keep the fire burning in your lover’s eyes beyond Valentine’s Day?

Everyone’s heard of the expression, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”. Perhaps there’s a modicum of truth to it after all. Maple Leaf Foods wanted to know how much Canadians love bacon, so they commissioned a survey.

Here’s what they discovered.

– 43% of Canadians would choose to indulge in bacon over sex
– 23% of men ranked bacon as their number one favourite aroma. Bacon perfume, anyone?
– 50% of respondents in British Columbia “said they would give up sex before bacon
– only 37% of respondents from Québec said that they would give up sex before bacon.

Maybe those Québécois and Québécoises know something the rest of us don’t!

Should we be concerned if there’s more sizzle in the kitchen than in the bedroom? Heck, no! 82% of those who “said they love bacon also said they are good lovers”. There has to be a recipe for romance in there somewhere. Fry up a few strips of bacon, crack open a bottle of champagne, chocolate truffles … and you’ve got the makings for a pretty romantic evening, right? Right? Be forewarned, though, don’t try this in your booth at Denny’s.

Ok, so the survey, itself, is a little silly, and I’m thinking that maybe those who love bacon that much really should get out more. But be honest, haven’t there been times when the foodie in you has opted for some scrumptious bite above all else? I remember sitting at a beach café in Italy with my significant other, the two of us taking little bites out of seafood stuffed olives… Hold on a minute. In Italy, sex on the beach isn’t just the name of a cocktail.

This is the moral of the story as I see it: great food doesn’t replace sex; it only adds to the allure.
