A Two Day Getaway

By / Food / August 16th, 2013 / 1

A quick getaway to a favourite destination is a great way to decompress and get some much needed R&R. Chances are, if you’re considering a weekend trip or a mid-week escape, time is at a premium. Whether you’re heading to cottage country or hopping on a plane, preparing and packing can take up valuable pre-vacation time and mental energy. Being prepared and using a checklist can significantly contribute to your mental well-being, making your two day getaway well-worth the effort.

Invest in a good weekend bag

Even the lightest weight, rolling suitcase cannot compare to the ease of travelling with a weekend bag. Easier to throw in the trunk or squeeze into an overhead compartment, a stylish bag can fit a two day wardrobe and all your toiletries. It can also work double duty as a beach bag, once at your destination.

Travel size toiletries

Have travel-sized versions of your must-have toiletries, in a clear plastic bag, stored and ready to go in your weekend bag. This one step will save you a mountain of time and energy. Make-up bags can be thrown in quickly right before departure.

What to wear

Quickly make a list of what you need based on the weather and activities you have planned. Bring only what’s on your list.

Travel documents

Have two copies on hand of any hotel confirmations and e-tickets. If you’re travelling with a partner or friend, ensure you both have copies. Also, make photocopies of your passport and credit cards and leave them with your office or a family member at home. If lost or stolen while away, having quick access to the information will be priceless.

Child care and pet care

If you’re a parent leaving your kids behind, you have probably prepared a list for grandma and have every intention of calling home a couple times a day. What we often forget to do is leave behind our children’s health cards and pediatrician’s contact info. Make a copy of both and leave them with your child care provider.

If you’re leaving your pet with a sitter, ensure they have the vet’s number, in case of emergency.

Leave the office at home!

No, don’t leave your phone behind but try to leave the tablets and laptops at home. You only have a couple of days – enjoy your destination and the person or people you’re travelling with.
