Kitchen gadgets - Blender

Is it just me, or does it seem like there’s a kitchen gadget for everything? Want to turn chickpeas into a delicious dip? Now, you can! Want to create a drink made of kale, fruit and protein powder? You do you, honey. Want to chop all the fixings for a stellar broth in five seconds flat? There’s an app a gadget for that, too.

In my experience, there is no such thing as a minimalist kitchen. So, for those who err on the side of “less is more” … your countertop is about to get a little more eccentric. Here are my top three gadgets for those who want to up their kitchen game for a reasonable investment.

You know you’re an adult when you save up for a food processor

Food processors are a gift from the kitchen gods themselves, who heard our pleas for an easier way to chop stuff. Rest your blistered hands, friend. These powerful mini appliances come with a wide bowl and different attachments for your slicing, dicing and mixing needs. So, if you just wanted to dice carrots, you can. You can chuck in slabs of mozzarella and it will come out shredded to perfection. Preparing your sourdough loaf? With the right attachment, your food processor can mix it for you.

Useful for shredding, chopping, slicing

It makes soup AND smoothies?! We’re reaching for the blender

The good old blender is your guy if you’re looking to accomplish one simple task: liquification. Most commonly used for smoothies, modern blenders have since evolved to adapt to an array of temperatures. Most can now handle hot liquids, which is handy for those looking to finishing off soups with a velvety smooth consistency. Other high-end blenders even have the option of cooling down liquids … and by cooling down, I mean the ability to MAKE ICE CREAM. Happy, happy tears.

Useful for liquifying soft solids

The perfect companion for one-pot recipes: the slow cooker

The slow cooker will cook almost anything if the recipe is one-pot-able. I’m talking everything from mac n’ cheese to beef brisket. Buyer beware! True to its name, slow cookers cannot be rushed. Though you won’t have to do anything other than combine all the ingredients and choose the heat setting, mac n’ cheese could take something like two and a half hours … and you’re looking at a minimum of eight hours for that brisket!

Once you get passed the haunting thought that something will go terribly wrong while you’re at work, a hot, home-made meal will be waiting for you as soon as you set a foot in the door. The only way this thing could possibly get better is if it would pour you a glass a wine, too.

Useful for when you’re not in a rush, chucking stuff in a pot and doing nothing else, employing a robot to do all the cooking for you, using up as few pots as possible.
