Walla Walla, Washington – roll that around your tongue for a while. Isn’t it fun? The geography is just as wonderful. This very small pocket in the state of Washington has been appearing more and more on wine lovers’ radar in the last decade or so all thanks to its talented group of winemakers.

Amavi Cellars, founded in 2001, is a notable ambassador of the region’s winemaking clout. They’re a small and family-run operation that is dedicated to sustainable methods of grape-growing and wine-making. Amavi is made up of 45 acres, all in production, and divided into four estates: Pepper Bridge, Les Collines, Seven Hills and Goff Vineyards.

The winery is owned by three families – Pellet, McKibben and Goff – all of whom play a vital role in managing and growing this dynamic winery.

Winemaker and co-owner, Jean-François Pellet comes by his love of wine honestly. Growing up in Switzerland, he learned how to tend grapes and make wine on an estate that his father managed for 30 years. After graduating from oenology and viticultural programs, he went on to hone is craft at wineries in Switzerland, Spain and California, finally laying down roots in Washington. Today, he focuses his considerable skill in crafting elegant wines from the wineries’ own Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Semillon grapes.

Although the families are committed to producing quality wines, they are also adamant about something else, too: “we insist on having good time while we’re doing it all!”
