A World of Chardonnay is Coming to Ontario

By / Wine + Drinks / July 16th, 2014 / 1

Last week I mentioned that the i4C (International Cool Climate Chardonnay Celebration) was being held in Niagara, Ontario (July 18-20, 2014) and pitched to you a few Ontario Chardonnays you should be trying to celebrate the occasion.

But it’s not just Ontario wineries that will be there: 58 wineries from 9 countries totaling 117 wines will also be present.

This week I’ll pick a half dozen more Chardonnays for you to celebrate with, but this time we’ll look at some from around the globe. Enjoy.

Rodney Strong 2012 Chardonnay, California ($19.95)

There’s peach and apple with smoked / grilled pineapple and a creamy texture with spiced lemon drop and some grilled peach on the finish.

Domaine Vincent Sauvestre 2012 Bourgogne Chardonnay, Burgundy ($18.95)

Mineral and citrus along with a touch of vanilla settles into the long vibrant finish.

Catena 2012 Chardonnay, Argentina ($19.95)

Vanilla and hints of butterscotch lift the nose and there are some toasty peach nuances on the palate.

Lander-Jenkins 2011 Spirit Hawk Chardonnay, California ($19.95)

Mango / pineapple and vanilla hint at the complex character of the wine to come; mouth-filling finish along with good acidic backbone for freshness. A real charmer with length to spare.

Bayten 2012 Chardonnay, South Africa ($17.95)

Apple, pear and peach along with the addition of vanilla and hints of butterscotch, and a nice spicy finish.

Dirty Laundry 2012 Not So Knotty Chardonnay, British Columbia ($26.95)

Pear and floral tones on the nose with pleasant exotic fruits on the palate.
