Tequila cocktails for Dia de los Muertos
November 2nd is Dia de los Muertos, aka Day of The Dead. In Mexico, it’s the day to honour loved ones who have passed away; but rather than spending the day in mourning, it’s a day of celebration! With vibrant colours and delicious food and cocktails, the occasion is far from a somber one. People gather with friends and family to eat good food and reminisce about those who have died. This year, while celebrations might look a different, your small gatherings or virtual celebrations should still include festive cocktails made with Mexico’s famous agave spirit, tequila.
If you want to give a nod to Mexico, pick up a bottle of Hornitos Reposado. Hornitos Reposado was created to celebrate the anniversary of Mexican independence. Boasting herbal and green apple notes, it has a slightly woody taste with a warm, slightly astringent finish.
Here are two simple DIY cocktails from Hornitos that you can shake and stir at home with Hornitos Resposado, if you have it, or any tequila you have on hand, if you don’t.
Hornitos Reposado Paloma
1 part Hornitos Reposado Tequila
2 parts Fresh Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice
1 part Simple Syrup
2 parts Club Soda
Build in order over ice in a tall glass, stirring once before adding soda and once after.
Garnish with a lime wedge or grapefruit wedge, and a rosemary sprig (optional).
Hornitos Reposado Margarita

1 part Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 part DeKuyper Triple Sec Liqueur
