Tasted: Whites before Labour Day

By / Wine + Drinks / August 21st, 2014 / 2

It’s a harsh reality; Labour Day is only a couple of weekends away. Ouch. Where did the summer go?

Make the best of the last warm days before back to school, back to work and yes, eventually, back to winter.

Here are a few of our favourite summer whites to enjoy by the lake, in the backyard and at those end of season barbecues.

Cheers, to another great summer!

Moulin de Gassac Première Sèlection Hérault Blanc 2010

Pays-d’Hérault IGP, France

Review Summary:

A Clairette Vermentino blend offering aromatic floral, peach and citrus notes with fresh yellow fruit flavours, moderate alcohol, medium weight and refreshing acidity. Great seafood pairing!

Emiliana Adobe Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Editor Rating: Very Good

Casablanca Valley, Chile

Review Summary:

A very nice Sauvignon Blanc made from organically grown fruit that shows lime, grapefruit, fresh herbs, some grassy notes and a touch of tropical fruit on the nose. This is fresh and balanced on the palate with lovely grapefruit-lime notes and just a hint of herbs and grass.

Mt Boucherie Estate Collection Pinot Gris 2010

Reviewed by: Harry Hertscheg

Editor Rating: Very Good

Okanagan, BC, Canada

Review Summary:

Savoury fruit-peel aromas with intense scents of peach, pear, citrus and Golden Delicious apple. Rich pear compote and honey-melon flavours wrap around a waxy texture. Apricot and golden raisins resonate on the spicy finish. Enjoy with seafood crepes.

Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Reviewed by: Rick VanSickle

Editor Rating: Excellent

Marlborough, New Zealand

Review Summary:

A vibrant and exciting nose of lime, kiwi, tangerine, grapefruit, light, fresh grass and herbs. It’s zingy and energetic on the palate with pure citrus and tropical fruits and fresh herbs lifted by bracing acidity. Zesty and pure SB that offers good value.
