Small Producer Online Winemakers’ Series
Join us as we celebrate many of the world’s outstanding family-owned, independent wine producers whose wines best represent their respective regions, styles and grape varieties. The Small Producer Live Online Winemakers’ Cyber Series will not just put you face-to-face (ie screen-to-screen) with some of the best wine producers in the world, the events will also highlight the importance of not just knowing where your food comes from, but also knowing where your wine comes from. We will share the stories of the people and the places and why these producers are so special. Space and wine packages are limited. Don’t miss these unique opportunities to connect with some of the world’s finest wine producers in a personal and intimate setting from the comfort of your own home.
The former Austro-Hungarian Empire encompassed what are now some of the finest wine regions in central and eastern Europe. One of those regions is Italy’s Alto Adige, which is still referred to as Sudtirol (South Tyrol – Tyrol was an estate of the Holy Roman Empire, fell to the House of Hapsburg, became part of Austria-Hungary and ultimately part of Italy). The wines from Elena Walch, one of the finest, historic and most exciting producers in Alto Adige will be showcased. Encouraging quality and innovation, Elena Walch stood at the head of Alto Adige’s quality revolution and has gained local and international esteem for her efforts. An architect by trade, Elena Walch married into one of the oldest and most significant wine families of the region and brought new, modern concepts to the traditional establishment. Today, Elena Walch wines are some of the best known from the region and sought after globally.
The philosophy of the Elena Walch estate is dedicated to its terroir – the idea that wines must be the individual expression of their soil, climate and cultivation in the vineyard – and that this must be maintained in a sustainable manner for subsequent generations. She firmly believes that the quality of wine is created in the vineyard. The wines of Elena Walch show character, elegance and great personality, reflecting the highest standards of winemaking. The superb climate and the excellent location of the vineyards produce fresh and fruit-driven white wines as well as concentrated and velvety red wines. The responsibility for the family business is now being put into the hands of the daughters, Julia and Karoline Walch, already the fifth generation.
Join us for an intimate live online tasting with Elena’s daughter Karoline Walch. In addition, Daniel Costa owner/chef of Corso32/Uccellino/Bar Bricco – 3 of Canada’s finest Italian restaurants – will give his perspective of the Elena Walch wines and the cuisine of Alto Adige and northern Italy and how they have influenced many of the dishes at his restaurants. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with Karoline and Daniel in a personal and intimate setting from the comfort of your own home. The tasting will be hosted by Gurvinder Bhatia, Quench Magazine editor-in-chief and international wine judge, educator and commentator. Purchase the following special Elena Walch package and receive an invitation to join Karoline and Daniel for an intimate live online tasting and Q&A via ZOOM on Sunday, February 7th, 2021, beginning at 3pm EST (12pm PST; 1pm MST; 2pm CST).
