Steven Elphick

International wine judge, oenophile and self-confessed foodie, Steven Elphick, expresses his lifelong passions through the photographic lens. What emerges bears his indelible mark on great brands and the foods and wines we love. As the exclusive photographer for Spectacular Wineries of Ontario, published by Panache, Steven takes you on a captivating photographic journey through Ontario Wine Country, where vineyards flourish in picturesque settings and winemaker’s dreams are born.

Ontario Wine Awards judge Gordon Stimmell reviewed this volume in his Toronto Star column. He wrote: ‘Spectacular Wineries of Ontario’ is a fabulous visual voyage through Ontario’s wineries. My wine colleague, Steven Elphick, spent hundreds of hours waiting for the right magical moment to capture with his camera the beauty and personalities that are at the heart of our local wine industry. His lens opens up the distinctive wine worlds of Niagara, Lake Erie North Shore, Prince Edward County and even pioneering northern vineyards.’

An accomplished photographer in the commercial advertising, product, food and beverage arenas, Steven continues to deliver high quality photography to clients with precision and care. Add to that a knack for delivering creative solutions that make ad agencies and clients look good, and you know you’re in the right hands. Steve’s images are widely published in books, magazines and advertisements worldwide.

Marlize Beyers

Hidden Bench Vineyards and Winery

Marlize joined the Hidden Bench team in the spring of 2010 bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience making premium wine in Niagara and internationally. In addition, Marlize has an intimate knowledge of working with estate grown, Bench fruit acquired over the last eight vintages working in Niagara.

A graduate of the renowned University of Stellenbosch, Viticulture and Oenology programme, Marlize is extremely well qualified and passionate to carry on and enhance Hidden Bench’s reputation for making benchmark, terroir driven wines from its three estate vineyards. Marlize’s belief that winemaking is a craft, supported by a healthy dose of science meshes very well with Hidden Bench’s quality focused attention to detail from vineyard to bottle and natural winemaking style.

When Marlize is not busy in the vineyard or the cellar, she can be found travelling or working in her garden with her husband Meiring and their young son David, or on a running or mountain bike trail staying fit.
