National Tequila Day: Celebrate (late) with a Watery Grave

National Tequila Day Victor Restaurant Watery Grave 2

There’s no doubt a fairly substantial number of people for whom every day is National Tequila Day. Good on ya. For the rest of us, National Tequila Day was July 24th. If you missed out, not to worry. Albert Chan, Head Bartender at Toronto’s Victor restaurant, came up with a great “darn, I missed the actual celebration but could sure use some tequila” cocktail.

Though dubbed the Watery Grave, there’s hardly a drop of “water” to be found in it. The “grave” part could possibly factor in depending on the number consumed (it is, admittedly, difficult to limit yourself to one).

Watery Grave

1 1/2 oz Olmeca Altos Tequila
1/2 oz Kopke Ruby port
1 oz Watermelon Coriander Cordial (recipe below)
1 1/4 oz fresh lime juice
Salt-rimmed coupe glass

Shake all ingredients together with ice, strain into coupe, and garnish with a slice of cucumber. Olé!

Watermelon Coriander Cordial

1 part fresh Watermelon Juice
1 part sugar
¼ part coriander seeds

Blend all ingredients together, fine strain several times until thin
