International Pinks for the Patio

By / Wine + Drinks / April 23rd, 2014 / 2

Last week we looked at some pink stuff from “Canada” and I promised we’d go abroad to test the light coloured vino from other countries.

Now I’ll be honest, pink wines aren’t for everyone, and in many cases you’re still looking at wines that are sweet … but once you put your lips and palate around a dry Rosé over a light lunch on the patio on a hot summer day you’ll know exactly what refreshment is.

To that end I am going to recommend a couple of stills and a couple of bubblies that should do the trick nicely.

Oyster Bay 2012 Sparkling Cuvee Rosé, New Zealand ($21.95)

Raspberry with a touch of lemon on the nose; while the palate reveals a touch of grapefruit amongst the red berries. Fresh red fruit with a citrus finish.

Cono Sur NV Sparkling Rosé, Chile ($13.95)

Starts off crisp in the mouth but it delivers a touch of sweetness in the form of strawberry and cherry with a lemony edge.

Remy Pannier 2012 Rosé d’Anjou, Loire ($12.95)

Refreshing fruity-dry mix that hints at a red berry bowl full of fruit; there’s also great mouthfeel and pleasant acidity. This one is for by itself sipping.

Ogier 2012 Cotes du Ventoux Rosé, Rhone ($10.95)

This one’s a dry delicate rosé that brings fruit to the forefront of the mouth but ends clean and crisp, for those looking to pair something with a summer salad or a bowl of berries on the patio.
