#FridayCocktail – Some Like it Hot!

By / Wine + Drinks / February 14th, 2014 / 3

Spice up your pre-Valentine’s Day dinner with this Tequila-based cocktail, garnished with a habanero pepper.

The habanero is a variety of chili pepper that is characterized by its fruity, citrus-like flavours but don’t let that fool you – it is hot. In fact, it is one of the hottest peppers, rated between 100,000 and 300,000 on the Scoville scale. The addition of the habanero to this cocktail will add a mild spiciness, not a burn-your-mouth-off heat. But, do use caution. Unless you are accustomed to eating chilies (or you’re about to win some serious money on a dare), we recommend you don’t chow down on the pepper!!

Habaneros can be bought at your local grocery store and can range in colour from green (unripe) to orange and red.

Ingredients

2 ounces of tequila

1 ounce of dry vermouth

1 small habanero pepper, whole for garnish

Ice

Preparation

Pour the tequila and vermouth into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Shake well.

Strain into a chilled cocktail (martini) glass and garnish with a whole habanero.
