#FridayCocktail: Jack-O-Lantern Old Fashioned

Carving a pumpkin with the kids this weekend? Don’t toss those eye, nose and mouth cut-outs…get your drink on! Celebrate autumn and the Halloween season with this delicious version of an Old Fashioned. If you’re planning a party, dec your home out with jack-o-lanterns and serve this as your signature cocktail. Happy haunting…

Ingredients

1 ½ ounces of bourbon whiskey

½ ounce of Grand Marnier

1 ounce of maple syrup

2 tablespoons of pumpkin purée (see below)

Orange peel twist, for garnish

Preparation

Peel your leftover pumpkin parts.

Cut your peeled pumpkin into small pieces and add to a pot of slightly salted boiling water.

Boil for 25 minutes , drain and let cool.

Purée in a food processor or blender (freeze any unused portion in ice cube trays or any small freezer -safe container).

Combine pumpkin purée, bourbon, Grand Marnier and maple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Strain into a chilled old-fashioned glass filled with ice.

Garnish with orange twist.

    This works with a standard carving pumpkin? I would never have thought of that idea but I really like it! I’m off to pick up some Gran Marnier now!
