#FridayCocktail – Backyard Sangria
This is my favourite time of year – mid summer. And, Fridays are my favourite day. The kids are home from a week of camp, the BBQ is ready to be fired up, the fire pit is prepared and chances are, a few friends are on their way over. Time to get our drink on! Since I often host, it just isn’t feasible to serve $40 bottles of wine – every time. So, tonight I will prepare a few pitchers of refreshing, delicious and cost-conscious pitchers of sangria. 2 bottles of red wine (under $15) – Beaujolais, Côtes-du-Rhone or an inexpensive Chianti all work well.
2 bottles of white wine – go with a pinot grigio under $15
6 ounces of Triple Sec or Cointreau
2 cans of San Pelligrino Blood Orange Sparkling Fruit Beverage
1 cup of fresh berries – blackberries, raspberries or strawberries
(for a smaller portion, cut ingredients in 1/2)
Slice 2 oranges, lemons and limes making sure to remove any seeds. Put them, along with your berries of choice, in a large pitcher.
Pour in the wine, add the orange liqueur and top with the San Pelligrino.
To serve, pour Sangria into large tumblers filled with ice and garnish with a slice of orange and a few fresh berries.
