Donate your wine & support hospitality workers

This month, Grapes for Humanity calls on Canadians to donate wine and help raise money for the hospitality industry. The wines will be auctioned off in Grapes for Humanity’s virtual Fine Wine Auction at the end of September. 95 cents for every dollar spent during the auction will be donated to charities dedicated to helping frontline hospitality workers who have lost income, or are struggling, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“After years of enjoying their service, it’s our turn to serve them,” wrote Geddy Lee, Grapes for Humanity Director, in his call for donations. COVID-19 has affected everyone in Canada in some way. The restaurant industry was hit hard when the government shut downs started. Even now, with their doors open and limited dine-in capacities, chefs, waitstaff, sommeliers, delivery personnel, farmers, fishermen, bakers and more are facing an uncertain future.

“They’re not doctors or ICU nurses, epidemiologists or vaccine manufacturers. But they are essential to us and have shared some of our life’s most intimate or profound moments or our tougher ones,” Lee continues, “I’m talking about people we know whose livelihood is the hospitality business. They make sure we have what we need, open early or stay late, find whatever we have to have that isn’t actually on the menu. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Now is the time to remember their generosity because they need our help.”

And so, they have put out a call to all Canadian wine lovers with full cellars – donate your wine and help raise money for charity.

Grapes for Humanity has partnered with Toronto Restaurant Workers Relief Fund who to date, have helped hundreds of front line employees with food gift cards; and Save HospitalityCA, headed up by The Ascari Group, who represent almost 40,000 Canadian hospitality businesses working to survive the pandemic.

The virtual event opens on Monday September 28th, 2020 and will run for a week and a half, until Wednesday October 7th, 2020. Waddinton’s Auctioneers & Appraiser will manage the online auction, which will be open to the general public.
