At the beginning of May, The Northern Lands Festival hosted over 60 wineries, craft breweries, craft distillers and more than 30 Canadian chefs. The four-day event in Edmonton featured trade shows, master classes in wine, collaborative Italian/Canadian dinners, producer dinners, and wine and food tastings for the public.

Among the events was the Wine Competition – judged by 12 experts and featuring only those wines served throughout the duration of the festival. Each wine was tasted by multiple panels, with the category champions tasted numerous times by most of the judges over the course of the competition.
