Bermuda Restaurants Weeks

Bermuda is quickly establishing itself as a culinary destination. I was recently treated to a first-hand (first fork?) sample of what the island has to offer, gastronomy-wise, and will report on my trip in a future issue of Quench. In the meantime, if you are thinking about a trip to Bermuda in the near future (or have a flight booked), you should be aware of the Bermuda Restaurant Weeks that runs from January 16th to February 2, 2020. This is the perfect way to explore the island’s diverse culinary offerings, and take advantage of a variety of two-course lunch or three-course dinner prix fixe menus at different price points.

In announcing this year’s event in early December, Bermuda Tourism Authority’s Chief Experience Development Officer, Glenn Jones, said, “We are six weeks away from Bermuda Restaurant Weeks 2020. We felt it was the right time to start talking about it with our community because we want community to be a focal point of what’s happening next January. Our theme this year is simple. Three words: ‘Food is Community.’

“This theme rings true because culinary is the perfect platform for sharing conversation, sharing culture, and sharing time with one another – with family, with friends, with our visitors. If fellowship over food is your thing, you’re going to really love Restaurant Weeks 2020.”

This is the ninth year the festival has run, and Jones hopes to up the culinary ante even further with a multi-level strategy aimed at (among other things) further elevating local food culture and promoting sustainability with a food-harvest almanac, and creating memorable, only-in-Bermuda food experiences to capture imaginations and inspire travel.

Whether it’s a classic Bermuda fish sandwich, a succulent spiny lobster, fish chowder infused with black rum and sherry peppers, flavour-packed local fruits, or a traditional codfish breakfast, the flavours of Bermuda are as inviting as the beautiful settings, and as diverse as its people and culture.
