Collingwood Toasted Maplewood Finished Blended Canadian Whisky

Canadian distilleries are gaining traction in the drinks industry. There are more and more Canadian spirits appearing on the shelves, and finding fans in the local consumers.

Collingwood Blended Canadian Whisky hit the scenes in 2011. Its an artisanal whisky made at Canada’s longest and continuously owned and operated distillery located in the Collingwood, Ontario. They use water from the Georgian Bay and fine grains sourced from local farms; the whisky is triple-distilled, aged in handmade white oak barrel and finished with an extra maturation step of resting with heavily toasted Maplewood staves (a unique touch found in Canada).

Their Toasted Maplewood Finished Whisky is a beautiful amber – and its colour is perfect for the taste. A faint nose with a hint of sweetness precedes huge flavour on the palate. The medium body of herbs and wood combine with toffee, smoke and more wood – oak and maple to be exact. The two wood flavours blend together quite nicely. It finishes spicy, rich, peppery and smoky.

This is a great sipping whisky. It would also be lovely with a splash of mix, if you prefer.

Collingwood Whisky’s line up includes the Toasted Maplewood and the Toasted Stave Finished blends, as well as their now sold out 21-Year-Old Rye; their Town Collection features new limited time special expressions, like their Double Barreled Canadian Whisky to be released this autumn.
