As far as Chateau des Charmes is aware, it’s the only winery in North America that grows and makes a single-varietal bottling of Aligoté every vintage. Lovely and zesty nose of melon, peach skin, green apples, ginger and subtle tropical notes. Deliciously fresh on the palate with an array of orchard fruits, just a hint of ginger and minerality on the finish.
Clear medium-deep garnet. Fairly strong and mature nose of strawberries and cranberries with a touch of mace. Light-bodied with a short finish; the stewed cherry-fruit is fading. Drink up.
This red Bordeaux from the Côte de Blaye region is very well priced. Deep ruby in colour, it has a cedary, blackcurrant nose with a floral note. Well-balanced and firmly structured, it’s quite forward and ready for drinking — thanks to the splendidly warm 2015 vintage. Serve it with lamb.
The perfumed aromatics of their 30-year-old Germanic grapes (Müller Thurgau, Kerner, Schönburger) combine with more tropical Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Viognier. The lively off-dry palate balances fresh lemony acidity and spicy fruit flavour with a lingering, juicy sweetness. Pair with Thai dishes.
Dark brown, a thick coat of foam. Heavy nose of dark caramel and plum. It tastes of almost sweet candied fruit; the low acidity and dense body feel good and filling in the mid-palate. Nourishing.
Fragrant violets on the nose, with ripe black-cherry flavour on the rich palate and lingering spice, tobacco and a hint of balsamic on the finish. A solidly built structure supported by intense, powerful tannins that need a few more years to soften. Made from the Croatina grape.
Wild-fermented, 100% Sangiovese made from organic grapes with a nose of cassis, currants, cherry jam, oak spice and plums. It is loaded with dark and juicy fruits on the palate with firm, structured tannins, depth, concentration and a certain earthy feel on the finish.
