Pouring a rich amber, this Brittany cider starts with aromas of ripe pear, baking spices and subtle earthiness. Ribbons of caramel with a low acidity balance the rich sip and characterize the silky palate, with medium tannins drying things out a little. A delight with fresh, salty cheeses and bloomy rinds, Hawaiian or white pizza. Available by private order from Communal Merchants.
Scents of lemon and lime, tropical fruit and a suggestion of mint lead the way for generously ripe lime, grapefruit and tropical fruit on the palate. Bracing acidity, gritty mineral and lingering fruity zest complete the picture.
Did you know that Vernaccia di San Gimignano was the first Italian wine to be awarded Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) status in 1966? If you did, well done, geek. The wine was elevated to DOCG status in 1993. The wine's history in the Tuscan region is recorded back to the 13th century, though the Vernaccia grape fell out of favour in the 20th century. This is 85% Vernaccia, complemented with other local grapes and aged entirely in stainless steel. Lemons lead the chorus of citrus, followed by almonds and wild flowers. There's an mushroom earthiness to the fine bed of lees that finishes this medium-bodied white with a bitter twist.
Amazing layers, complexity and texture with raspberries and earth, leather, dried flowers; full-bodied, with an amazing concentration and a finish that goes on and on and on. Remarkable balance and depth. Drinking in its prime. Perfect with grilled wild boar chops.
From year to year, the Chardonnay is always top quality. Made from estate and purchased grapes and fermented via natural yeasts, it was then aged in 20% new oak. Pear, apple, peach, honey, cream, vanilla and spice all play nice together. A fresh finish bodes well for pairing against scallops and crab.
Delightful aromas of floral, rose, sassafras and red/black fruit. Lively acidity balances the creamy texture, velvety tannins and jammy fruit flavours of raspberry, cherry and plum. Earthy notes of leather and black fruits linger on the finish. A suitable match with barbecued chicken dishes.
This fine l’Acadie offers excellent aromatic character redolent with grapefruit, peach, green apple and green herbal notes. Bright green fruit flavours are rounded out with a distinctive squeeze of lime, slatey mineral and signature crisp acidity.
