I tasted this magnificent Muscat of Alexandria at the Vancouver Wine Festival. Amber colour with honey, orange peel, raisins, dates and figs on the nose; full-bodied with burnt sugar and molasses flavours, beautifully harmonious with enough acidity to balance and give great length.
Catena’s staple Malbec is a saturated-purple/cherry wine that offers excellent concentration and length. Its personality is somewhat overripe with raisins, blueberries, blackberries and black cherries meshing with licorice, violets and cocoa. Drink it over the next 5 to 7 years.
Mature, nearly opaque deep mahogany colour. Huge nose hits you as you draw near the glass: plums, then kirsch and golden raisins. Flavour is dominated by black cherries, balanced with an interesting dash of herbal bitters and some spice from the oak. Has a tonne of fruit without being jammy. Ready now; won’t get better. Luscious with roast duck and braised kale.
Offers rich butterscotch, dried spicy fruit, a creamy textured palate with notes of caramel and vanilla, finishing with firm oaky dryness. A very good whisky and outstanding value.
Deep amber in colour with a raisin, tea leaf, honey and dried apricot nose. Full-bodied, unctuous, very sweet, candied orange marmalade flavours. Well-balanced and a great length.
Pale yellow. Fresh and expressive nose with apple/pear notes and a hint of lanolin revealing the presence of Chardonnay blended with Sauvignon Blanc. Light body, very fresh fruity taste, perfectly dry with a mineral edge that gives it structure. Ready now.
An open and approachable Cali Cab with plum, dark cherry, mint, cocoa and hints of animal. A touch sweet; there is very good length, and it is drinking well now.
