Credited with reinstating and introducing a dying-off grape, Yalumba now has the greatest plantings of Viognier in the world. This vintage of Y Series brings the classic lush apricot, jasmine, ginger and honeysuckle to a rich, spicy and full palate. At 14.5% alcohol, this can and absolutely should be paired with protein — think ahi tuna tataki with papaya salad.
Fresh and pretty aromas of strawberry and peppercorns with herbal notes and a touch of earthiness, juicy and fresh as it glides across the palate with a light firmness. Serve with a slight chill to make it even more quaffable.
The nose shows a profound and complex riot of violets, sweet tobacco leaf, crushed blackcurrants, stewed plums, fruitcake, spicy wild berries and blueberry pie. It is big and assertive on the palate with weight, density and complex fruits of sweet blackcurrants, dates, kirsch and blueberries in combination with myriad spices stitched neatly into the highly structured package. It is a super-rich, super-concentrated dark and flamboyant Port with a long, long finish. It will take years of patience to fully appreciate, but it will be worth every second of the wait.
Grapes sourced mainly from Blind Creek, Similkameen, with some Syrah from the Okanagan Valley, delicately handled in open top fermenters, then aged in French oak. From an excellent vintage, ripe, forward red and black fruit with mineral and pepper notes, followed by an intensely fruited but well balanced palate, mouth-filling and well rounded with assertive but approachable, well integrated tannins, inviting layers of mulberry, blackberry, dark fruits and vanilla, primed by vibrant, lingering acidity through the persistent, lingering close. A superb expression for drinking now but also with good aging potential.
Dark beers aren’t just for winter, especially when it’s a chocolately, 4.7% easy-sipping stout like this one. Aromas of fresh coffee grounds, plum and Tamari dance on a lightly creamy body before finishing on dark chocolate. Fire up the grill because this savoury stout is perfect for grilled salmon or beef burgers.
Deep ruby colour showing a nose of cedar, blueberry and blackcurrant with a spicy, toasty oak note; medium- to full-bodied, dry, well-extracted blueberry and black cherry flavours; full in the mouth, with well-integrated oak and a floral grace note. Firmly structured with ripe tannins. Hold for 2 years.
Grown on two well established sites in Osoyoos. Hand harvested and cold fermented in stainless steel for 17 days. Orchard fruits and citrus notes on the nose with a hint of orange blossom followed by a focused palate of nectarine and honey with a fresh finish with a hint of minerality.
