5 Minute Mav: Corey Mintz

By / Mavericks / July 18th, 2013 / 3

Corey Mintz has become synonymous with great food and intriguing dinner parties. Starting out as a cook, he was a quick study learning the ins and outs of the food industry. Corey then turned that considerable knowledge into a career as a restaurant critic. Now, he combines the best of those experiences as a dinner party host for his weekly “Fed” column in The Toronto Star. As if those accomplishments weren’t enough, Corey has decided to share his practical and funny hosting tips and tricks in his newly published book, How To Host A Dinner Party.

What makes you happy?

A sense of accomplishment. Lots of things bring me happiness: a sip of good bourbon, a spoonful of Nutella, The Couch episode of Seinfeld, cycling to the market, etc. But when I’m not happy, the one thing that improves my mood is productivity.

Who is your favourite author?

Iceberg Slim.

What quality about yourself do you dislike the most?

I’m judgmental. The people I like the most accept others as they are and I try to be more like that but it’s not in my nature.

What’s your favourite food?

Bread.

What’s your favourite occupation?

Dinner party host would be my dream job. But I don’t think that’s a real thing.
