10 Things To Do on the Long Weekend

By / Magazine / May 24th, 2010 / 2

Victoria Day is a Canada-wide statutory holiday that always falls on the last Monday in May on or before the 24th. This year, the date’s bang on. But, there have been years where the holiday has occurred as early as the 18th of May. The day celebrates not only the birth of Queen Victoria, but of the reigning Monarch as well. In Quebec, that weekend also marks the journée nationale des patriotes holiday. Whichever way you look at it, the May 24th holiday is also the weekend that marks the unofficial start of summer.

Wondering what to do this May long weekend? We’ve compiled a list of 10 popular ways to live it up!

1. open up your cottage or your pool

2. visit a garden centre

3. take in a Victoria Day parade

4. do the touristy thing (visit a local attraction, like Centre Island in Toronto or take a hike in Parc Mont Royal, Montreal)
