Opimian Society Talks Food and Wine at The Residences at Fairmont Ridge

On November 20th, 2010 vacationers and prospective second home buyers alike will have the opportunity to attend “Tasting in the Mountains”, with Opimian Wine Society of Canada, hosted at The Residences at Fairmont Ridge, Fairmont Hot Springs B.C. This one-of-a-kind tasting event will be led by wine expert Kerri Wallin of the Opimian Wine Society, where she will showcase some of the best and most exclusive wines from various international mountain regions and teach the audience the trick to food and wine pairings. As Holiday Season parties approach, one can learn the tricks of the trade in food and wine matching!

Tasting in the Mountains” represents the fourth instalment of the popular “Cooking in the Mountains” ­ a regular culinary and dining event, hosted by The Residences at Fairmont Ridge that has featured a variety of top Western Canadian culinary experts.

From 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m, guests will participate in an interactive wine and food tasting with one of Canada¹s experts – typically only available to Opimian Wine Society members. With Kerri Wallin’s guidance, guests will learn the proper way to smell, sip, and savour everyone’s favourite grape beverage, while mingling with friends and other guests in the newest and only luxury townhome project in Fairmont Hot Springs. A food pairing will accompany each wine.

Past “Cooking in the Mountains” guests include Gail Hall, renowned Canadian food critic and CBC Radio Critic, Steve Smee, Executive Chef of Calgary’s UNA Pizza and Wine, and Lee Hellman, Saskatoon-based Chef De Cuisine; each of whom have wowed guests with their culinary creations. “The night exceeded my expectations and I wouldn’t change a thing,” notes one Residences at Fairmont Ridge guest. “I have never attended anything like that and really loved learning about the cooking without having to do it myself.  I’m excited to try the recipes!”

Based in Vancouver, B.C., Opimian Wine Society is a Canadian wine-importing cooperative with chapters in every major Canadian city. Their mission is to deliver the best wine from around the world, while providing education, enjoyment and knowledge to its members. As one of Opimian’s top wine experts, Kerri Wallin’s passion for food and wine began while attending a cooking school in the south of France. After spending countless summers in Provence and hosting small group cooking classes and wine tastings, Wallin’s desire to deepen her wine knowledge led her to join the Opimian Wine Society.  She now frequently entertains with elaborate wine tastings while traveling the world.
