Feast of Fields in the Okanagan

By / Magazine / August 11th, 2009 / 1

Talk about decadence, this event offers visitors a huge 25 course wine-paired tasting menu and an opportunity to explore the Valentine Farm in Summerland, BC on August 23 for $85.

Twenty-five of the top chefs of the Okanagan-Similkameen have paired with local farmers, wineries and breweries to create this celebration of local food. On arrival, guests are handed a linen napkin and a wine glass. Then, everyone is free to roam and discover the great food and beverages of the region at their leisure. Feast of Fields is set in the beautiful fields of Valentine Farm in Summerland, surrounded by hillside vineyards, gardens and orchards. “This event is a great value,” says Feast of Fields coordinator Rhys Pender, “where else can you enjoy the creations of 25 restaurants in one place at one time? And each one paired with wine or beer? It is a dream come true for food lovers who want to experience the best of the Okanagan culinary scene and meet the producers and chefs that create it together.”

The list of participants reads like a culinary who’s who. Everyone from local butchers and grocery stores to the top chefs in the best restaurants seem to be a part of this event. Stop by Passa Tempo’s booth to sample fare created by Brad Lazarenko, one of last year’s Maverick Chefs in Tidings Magazine (October 2008).

This event is a fundraiser for FarmFolk/CityFolk and their efforts to work with both farm and city to help create a sustainable food system for British Columbia. The Okanagan-Similkameen region is a hotbed of food production with the fruits and vegetables of the region highly sought after by chefs throughout British Columbia.
