Chef George Tyminski, sous chef at Annona restaurant at the Park Hyatt in Toronto, won round seven of the new Discovered Culinary Competition. The semi-finals will take place March 4 – 6 2012 at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto.

The Discovered Culinary Competition is a four-month search for the best of Canada’s up-and-coming culinary stars. The winning chef will get the opportunity of a lifetime: an all-expenses-paid trip to spend a week cooking at a Michelin-star restaurant in northern Spain.

In a mystery box challenge, the Discovered Culinary Competition features four Canadian chefs competing against the clock each week to create an appetizer, entrée and dessert. In addition to Chef Tyminski, the competitors included David Williams, artistic cook at Torito Tapas Bar; Daniel Henderson, executive chef at Bento Sushi, all of Toronto; and Jessica Cat, fruit carver at Edible Arrangements and chef at Cora’s Restaurant, both in Waterloo.

The mystery boxes included squid, capers, corn tortillas and Amsterdam Natural Blonde lager in the appetizer round; LiberTerre chicken supreme, black olives, salami and dried figs for the entrée round; and caramel rice cakes, banana, cream and Cadbury Caramilk bars for dessert.
